My Opus Choir (Ages 5-10)

My Opus Choir (Ages 5-10) is a 12-week program. Students join together to sing traditional and popular songs in this vocal group for children. While being encouraged to "tell the story of the songs" through expression, students will learn basic music theory, learn to breathe properly, match pitches, and grow their confidence and stage presence. No experience necessary, just a love of singing! My Opus Choir performs at the Opus 1 Holiday Party and Recitals.

Welcome from Teacher Juliana

Welcome to My Opus Choir! It is a pleasure to have all of you in my class. Over the next several weeks, we will have a lot of fun together.  You will soon be singing new songs and doing worksheets to introduce you to music theory. You will get to experience the joy of making music with your friends. I look forward to getting to know you all and to helping each one of you find your voice!

Hello, Bon Jour, Buenos Dias,
*G’day, Guten tag, Konichiwa,
*Ciao, Shallom, Dobrey Dyen,
Hello to all the children of the world!

We live in different places from all around the world,
We speak in many different ways -
Though some things might be different,
we’re children just the same,
And we all like to sing and play.

Hello, Bon Jour, Buenos Dias,
*G’day, Guten tag, Konichiwa,
*Ciao, Shallom, Dobrey Dyen,
Hello to all the children of the world!

There are children in the deserts, and children in the towns,
And children who live down by the sea.
If we could meet each other, to run and sing and play,
Then what good friends we all could be.

I’m in the mood for singing
Hey, how about you?
I’m in the mood for singing
Hey, how about you?
I’m in the mood for singing
Singing along with you
Hey, hey, what do you say
I’m in the mood for that today
Hey, hey, what do you say
I’m in the mood for that.

I’m in the mood for clapping...

I’m in the mood for whistling...

I’m in the mood for dancing...

I’m in the mood for singing...
We could stand side by side
We could see eye to eye
We could walk hand in hand
And you could be my friend

We could stand side by side
We could see eye to eye
We could walk hand in hand
And you could be my friend

I’ve made up my mind
I want to find
Friendship and peace
There’s no other way
It starts today
It starts with me

We could stand side by side
We could see eye to eye
We could walk hand in hand
And you could be my friend
Listen to the water, listen to the water,
Rolling down the river.
Listen to the water, listen to the water,
Rolling down the river.

We saw some birds by the waterside,
Saw some birds by the waterside,
We saw some birds by the waterside,
Oh, oh, by the waterside
Oh, oh, by the waterside.

Chorus

We saw some fish by the waterside...

Chorus

We saw some ducks by the waterside...

Chorus

We saw some flowers by the waterside...

How Do I Practice?

We will sing and learn together each time we meet by using call-and-response. You will get the most enjoyment out of class if you are able to practice!

  • Practice 5-10 minutes a day
  • Pick 1 or 2 songs to sing each day
  • Stand in front of a mirror while you sing
  • Have good singing posture and breath from your stomach
