F.A.Q ABOUT COVID-19 / Opus 1 Music Studio

Last updated: 6/19/2021 12pm

This F.A.Q will be updated on a regular basis and will be a source of information for opus 1 families, students, employees and teachers regarding the on-going coronavirus / covid-19 situation.

How is the current corona virus / covid-19 situation affecting private and group music lessons offered by Opus 1?

As of June 15th 2021 all limitations have been lifted by the state of California. We are now fully reopened. Our teachers are available for in-person lessons.

Note regarding voice lessons: for safety reason, only fully vaccinated students are accepted in-person for voice lessons for the moment. Un-vaccinated students may attend their voice lessons online for the time being.

More details on in person lessons and our reopening plan are available here.

Can my Child come to in-person lesson?

Please use the follow flow chart to determine if your child can come to in-person lesson or not. Online lessons are available at all time. Please see our online lessons page for more details.

Is Opus 1 offering remote / online lessons?

Yes - Please see our online lessons page for more details.

Is Opus 1 planning any change in tuition?

Our tuition is usually increased every two years to follow inflation and overall rising costs (rent, employee benefits etc.), and was due to increase September 1st 2020.

Due to the covid-19 financial impact on the community the next tuition increase was postponed to 2021.

What about Recitals and Exams?

All recitals and exams are continuing one way or another, online or in person if possible. Please talk to your teachers for more details.

Recitals in 2020 and part of 2021 were held online. Our next recital Honors Recital 2021 will be back to normal and held at our usual venues (St Mark Episcopal Church and Santa Clara University Recital Hall)

Is Opus 1 cancellation / withdrawal policy for private lessons changed in any way?

We are increasing the Make Up Credit Limit to 3 (instead of 2) to allow families more flexibility in cancelling private lessons (with at least 24h notice) and receiving make up credits that can be used in the future (Make up credits do not expire as long as you are a active member, they will expire 30 days after the end of the students membership).

Please refer to our standard private lesson policies for more details.

What is the most efficient way to cancel / re-schedule private lessons?

We have over 850 students on a weekly basis on 2 campuses, and though we provide professional admin staff 7 days a week during our business hours, answering all admin@musicopus1.com emails and phone calls, rescheduling requests can in some cases become overwhelming.

To ensure your request is handled in a timely manner, we recommend families to log on to your online account to conveniently cancel and book make up lessons using your make up credits online. This is available 24/7 for your convenience.

If you are not able to log-in (forgotten password for example), know that you have a couple of alternative options before emailing admin@musicopus1.com to receive a password reset email:

  • Type your email address (the one your account is registered with) and click “Get an Email Link”. You will receive a temporary access link (valid 30 mins) by email. You can then reset your password if you wish to do so.

  • If you have a google / gmail account, you can click “Login with Google” to securely login using your google account (Opus 1 will not receive your google account credentials, they remain between you and google).

How can I maximize my make up credits?

When you cancel a private lesson (with 24h notice) you will receive a make up credit that can be used to book a make up lesson. There is a limit of 3 make up credit per subscription at any given time (not including make up credits issued for teacher absences, which are not limited).

So if you have reached your limit for a given subscription, we encourage you to “use” your pending make up credits to book make ups within the next 45 days with any available teacher. Once you have used a make up credit to book a lesson you may cancel another lesson.

Can I end my membership and withdraw from private lessons?

Yes - per our regular cancellation policy.
As a small, family owned local business, we are doing all we can to support our teachers during this extremely difficult time. One way you can help to support your teacher's livelihood is by continuing attending your lessons online and not withdrawing.

Is Opus 1 cancellation / withdrawal policy for group lessons changed in any way?

Not at the moment. Group lessons will go as planned.

Please refer to our standard private lesson policies for more details.

We will continue to update this page as the situation develops.

We wish everyone to stay healthy and safe, and thank you for your understanding.
